Scott Miller, President

Scott has been with Gongwer for nearly 20 years, having focused on daily reporting and editing duties in his early career. Scott is responsible for subscription and distribution matters, and has done significant work in transitioning the century-old company to the Internet age. He is a Miami University graduate and is a former president of the Ohio Legislative Correspondents Association. Outside of work, Scott is involved with youth leadership development, youth athletics and other community programs.

Alan Miller, Vice President

Alan has been with Gongwer News Service for more than four decades, joining the company as a reporter after his graduation from Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. Al covered the Michigan Legislature for Gongwer from 1972-1992. In 1998, he received the Scripps School's L.J. Hortin Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Kent Cahlander, Editor

A graduate of Ohio State University, Kent became a Gongwer staff writer in 1998. Promoted to the editor position in 2003, he is responsible for assignments, coverage and the content of the Gongwer Ohio Report. He covers a variety of subjects and venues, including the state budget process.

Rachel Buccicone, Staff Writer

An honors graduate of Ohio State University, Rachel joined Gongwer in 2009 from Suburban News Publications, where she covered various beats, including Columbus City Council, as a senior reporter. She leads Gongwer's coverage of education and Medicaid policy, among other things.

Jeremy Pelzer, Staff Writer

Jeremy joined the Gongwer staff in 2012 after covering government and politics for several news outlets. He worked most recently for the Casper Star-Tribune, covering the Wyoming State Capitol beat. He also covered Colorado politics and government for PolitickerCO.com, and served there as a member of the Colorado Capitol Press Association board. A winner of multiple journalism awards, Jeremy has held intern positions with The State Journal-Register in Springfield, Ill.; GateHouse News Service in Springfield and The Hotline. He holds degrees from the University of Illinois at Springfield and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He enjoys improv comedy and playing kickball, among other hobbies.

Marcus Roth, Staff Writer

Marcus has been a Gongwer staff writer since 2005. A graduate of the University of Virginia, he has covers energy, environment, health and several other issues. Before joining Gongwer, Marcus wrote for the (Lexington, Va.) News-Gazette and published freelance pieces in The Washington Post.

Shannon Young, Staff Writer

Shannon joined the Gongwer staff in 2012 after covering the Massachusetts and Connecticut state capitols for the Associated Press. Beyond state-level reporting, she also has experience covering Capitol Hill, working as a fellow for the Nashua Telegraph. Shannon holds a degree in journalism from Boston University.

Travis Minnear, Clips Director

Before joining the Gongwer staff, Travis worked as a local government reporter at the Portland (Indiana) Commercial-Review and The Ashland Times-Gazette. He graduated magna cum laude from Ohio State University in 2007, with a bachelor's degree in journalism. Before joining the Gongwer staff, Travis worked as a local government reporter. Travis is responsible for the content of Gongwer's news clip services.
